Understanding Natural Deodorant from the Natural New Age Mum

Understanding natural deodorants gives you freedom to choose.

Understanding natural deodorants is vital to be able to choose the best one for you. Sonia’s in depth blog about the importance of wearing a natural deodorant. She highlights the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants and their quality. So happy to be working with Sonia Donaldson from Natural New Age Mum who has just blogged about the Ultimate Guide to Natural Deodorants.

Hit and Miss

When our deodorants first came out, Sonia was one of the first customers to write a review on our Fresca Natural deodorants. Seems like there are now  so many to choose from. Deodorants come in all shapes and sizes, creams, pastes and sticks. We love our traditional no mess, no sticky fingers, convenient long lasting roll-on bottle. Sonia has included Fresca Natural in her bag of must have natural deodorants.

Sonia’s take on natural deodorants tells the real story about how natural deodorants are so good now that they are even better than commercial deodorants. (And better for you.)

Deodorant verses Antiperspirants

Deodorants are not antiperspirants. Natural deodorants do NOT block your sweat glands. They stop the odour and keep your sweat glands working stress free to cool your body. Sweating is part of who we are. It’s natural and helps us eliminate toxins that can cause internal body stress if they’re not given the exit they deserve. If you block your sweat glands, where does your sweat go? How will you be able to eliminate toxins and keep your body cool?

No nasties

Natural deodorants are body friendly. No chemicals that confuse your brain when you read the ingredients. Typically natural deodorants contain NO aluminium, parabens, propylene glycol, phthalates, triclosan and no fragrance (which is also the name given to labels where a hidden preservative is added).  Fresca Natural deodorants are made from food grade ingredients. Then they’re blended with essential oils. So much research is available nowadays regarding the natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties that plants make every day. The myth is busted as scientists add plant oils to their petri-dishes with astonishing results.

Ouch! Is that from my toxins?

Pit detoxing is a new phrase used to describe the elimination of toxins from your armpits. Many new users of natural deodorants switching over for the first time don’t realise that they’re detoxing from using conventional deodorant.

As a result, it can take up to 14 days for your pits to detox. Some people can experience redness, itchiness, rashes or strong smells. Be patient. If your pits are still not happy after a couple of weeks you may need to switch and try a different natural deodorant. Like all products, patch test first and see how you go.

There are products that can help the detox process along, which are clay based to draw out impurities and re-balance the skin. Understanding natural deodorants and how they work with your sweat glands helps you understand what’s happening to your body.

Which application is for you?

Finally, with a great number of natural deodorants to choose from, it’s really a personal choice. We like the no mess, no sticky fingers, no waste roll-on deodorant. It  won’t melt in your bag. Our 7 scented fragrances will last around 2-3 months in a bottle. This cuts down the amount of recycling needed going to your council.
